Kibale National Park is regarded as the world’s top destination for chimpanzee tracking, boasting a population of over 15,000 chimpanzees. Two groups are open for habituation experiences, allowing visitors to observe these incredible primates up close. The park is also renowned for its rich biodiversity, offering sightings of other primates, colorful butterflies, diverse bird species, insects, and more.
During your transfers, you’ll pass through Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you’ll have the opportunity to spot tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector, along with elephants, hippos, leopards, and various bird species, making your journey even more thrilling.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a dense, mountainous rainforest with altitudes ranging from 1,160m to 2,607m above sea level. Its steep slopes, thick vegetation, and misty atmosphere make gorilla trekking a challenging yet rewarding experience. Due to the dense forest cover, visibility can be limited, so a high-quality camera is recommended for capturing stunning wildlife moments.
With an average annual rainfall of 1,500mm, Bwindi serves as a crucial water source for major rivers flowing into Lake Albert.

Safari Itinerary
DAY 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park to embark on our chimpanzee and gorilla trekking Safari.
5 Day Chimpanzee & Gorilla Trekking Safari is one of the most popular luxury tours organized by Gorilla Safaris Uganda Travel. Your adventure begins with a warm welcome from a Gorilla Safaris Uganda Travel tour guide, who will pick you up from the airport or your hotel before setting off for Kibale Forest National Park—one of the best destinations for chimpanzee tracking.
We will make a stopover at the Omukama’s Palace in Fort Portal, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region. Next, we’ll visit the stunning crater lakes, where you can take in the breathtaking scenery. Afterward, you will check into a lodge of your choice for a relaxing overnight stay.

DAY 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest National Park.
At 7:30 AM, we gather at the Kanyanchu Park Headquarters, and by 8:00am, we set off on an exhilarating 4-hour chimpanzee trekking adventure in Kibale Forest National Park. home to East Africa’s largest chimpanzee population of over 15,000 individuals. Along the way, you may also encounter up to 12 other primate species include: (Red Colobus Monkeys, Black-and-White Colobus Monkeys, L’Hoest’s Monkeys, Blue Monkeys, Grey-Cheeked Mangabeys, Red-Tailed Monkeys, Olive Baboons, Vervet Monkeys, Ugandan Mangabey and others) as well as a variety of butterflies and birdlife, making this an unforgettable wildlife experience.
In the afternoon, have the opportunity to visit the Bigodi community, where you can engage in cultural activities such as local beer brewing, coffee grinding, traditional healing practices, local art weaving, and more.

DAY 3: Transfer to Bwindi Gorilla Impenetrable Forest National Park
Early in the morning we will leave for Kisoro. We will cross Kazinga Channel, traveling through Queen Elizabeth Park, and reach Kabale town in time for lunch. From Kabale town we will continue through a beautiful landscape also defined as the {Switzerland of Africa} rolling mountains, lakes, hills with cultivated terraces, tropical rain forest and bamboo forest. On the last hill the landscape unfolds beneath us, taking in the vast planes between Uganda, Rwanda and Congo, with the Virunga volcanoes dominating the view. At the bottom of the valley is Kisoro.

In the sixties the famous American ‘gorilla-woman’ Dian Fossey visited the Travellers Rest Hotel many, many times to do paperwork, relax or meet people. Fossey said about the hotel: “It was my second home”. Travellers Rest Hotel is just outside Kisoro and offers a cozy stay for the tourists coming to see the endangered mountain gorilla. The hotel, built in a somewhat colonial style, and entirely renovated in 1999, has a comfortable ambiance. Driving time: ± 8 hours

DAY 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park
On the day of gorilla trekking, you will depart from Travelers Rest Hotel in Kisoro and travel by car to Nkuringo, located in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park (about 1 hour). Upon arrival, you will receive a briefing at 7:45 AM, and at 8:30 AM, your exciting gorilla tracking adventure will begin. Once you find the gorillas, you will have the rare opportunity to spend up to one hour with these magnificent creatures. You are expected to return to the starting point by 7:00 PM at the latest. Physically fit participants are recommended for this trek, and all trekkers will be awarded a gorilla trekking certificate from the Park Headquarters.
In the evening, we will visit the Batwa community, the original forest dwellers of Bwindi, for an enriching cultural experience

DAY 5: Transfer to Kampala/Entebbe Airport.
Early in the morning after breakfast you will travel back to Kampala. On the way back to the city you will have lunch in Mbarara town, and after Masaka there will be an opportunity to a stop at the Equator for photo shoots and buying souvenirs and have tea or coffee.
We will then bring you back to Kampala or Entebbe for your flight back home and marks the end of the 5 days chimpanzee and gorilla trekking Safari Tour.
