The Kazinga channel is a narrow 40km stretch of waterway joining Lake Edward to Lake George in a symbiotic relationship whereby Lake George which is to the northeast empties its waters southwest into Lake Edward. Lake George is a small lake with depth of 2.4m and receives its waters by streams from the Rwenzori Mountains, north of the lake and then out flowing through the Kazinga Channel into Lake Edward which is one of Uganda’s major freshwater lake
The channel is located in Kasese district in the western part of Uganda bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Kazinga channel attracts large numbers of wildlife which makes it one of the most interesting places to visit during your safari to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The different species of wildlife and. birds swam the channel from the surrounding savannah to quench their thirst and to feed on the fresh vegetation on the shores of the channel.
The wildlife biodiversity on the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park is most astonishing with 95 types of mammals , including wildlife like lions, warthogs, buffalo, rare aquatic sitatunga antelope, giant forest hog, Uganda kob, topi, waterbuck, elephant and leopard and 612 different birds including the Great White and Pink-Backed Pelicans, African Shoebill, Yellow Billed Stork, Great and Long Tailed Cormorants, Open-Billed Stork, Saddle Bill Stork, Darters, Black Crake and Jacana making it a prime destination for birding enthusiasts.
